The Candymakers by Wendy Mass
I can’t tell you too much about The Candymakers without giving things away, but I’ll tell you what I can. The Candymakers is about four kids who are competing in a candy making contest.
First is Logan. He is the son of the owner of Life is Sweet, the candy factory that is hosting this part of the contest. He is a candy expert…as far as tasting goes. But can he make the candy of his dreams and win the contest as his father and grandfather did?
Then there is Miles. Miles loves the factory as soon as he sees it and makes quick friends with Logan. But he has some very strange interests…and allergies!
Next is Daisy. She appears to be a fairly average, energetic girl. But what average girl can pull a 50 pound lump of taffy with no problem?
Then comes Phillip. He is anything but average. He refuses to eat any candy at all, is rude to everyone, and he is always scribbling away in a secret notebook of his. Why did Phillip even enter in the contest?
Somehow, the four kids have got to overcome all their difficulties, because in a few days time, they will all be working together for something greater than just a contest.  -Autumn Bright, 14, Region A

The Courage of Sarah Noble by Alice Dalgliesh
Sarah Noble was a little girl of eight. Sarah had three sisters and three brothers. Sarah's father was going to Connecticut to build a house, he was going to build a house and then come back for the rest of the family. He took Sarah with him so she could cook for him [none of her older sisters wanted to go.] On their way they came to a house and a lady let them stay for the night. The lady had four children, two boys, and two girls, the older girl was nice but the two boys were mean, teasing her about the Indians saying, "they will chop off your head" "they will skin you alive" "they will eat you". the next day they left. They came to some land soon, and Sarah's father found a cave they could live in until they built a house. one day, Sarah's father had to leave her at the cave so he could go find logs to build a house [their horse Thomas was going with him to pull logs.] So sarah sat in the cave reading her Bible win she heard something, some Indians came over their fence, they were small Indians, about the same size as her, sarah was nice and read some Bible story's to them. the Indians left soon. Sarah's father got a Indian to help him build the house, he called him tall john. He had a little boy and a little girl they were sarah's favorate indian children. Sarah's father, and tall john got the house done soon. Then her father had to go back and get the rest of the family. he left sarah with tall john and his family. sarah had fun there. She got a pair of Indian clothes, and mocassins. one of sarahs favorate games was were they took of their mocassins and put them in a row, then they hid a rock in one, then someone tryed to guess what one it was in. Win sarah guessed she was right! Sarah turned around, there was her father!!! "i thought you were one of the Indian children" he said. after she changed her clothes tall john carryed her to her house. Her mother was there and her brothers and sisters to sarah was very happy to see them.  The End  ~ Matthea Boatright, Age 10, Region K

Danny and the Dinosaur by Syd Hoff
Danny found the dinosaur in the museum. My favorite part is when  a policeman stared at them because he had never seen a  dinosaur stop at a red light.    There are three good adventures in this book.  The Dinosaur also goes to camp and plays football and goes to a birthday party!   ~ Emma-6yrs old, Region MS

Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus by  Mo Willems
I read Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus, by Mo Willems.  I liked the part where the pigeon had a big melt-down.  He really wanted to drive the bus.  He tries lots of ways to get to drive the bus.  He shouldn't drive the bus.  Read the book to see what happens at the end.  It would be kind of cool if a real pigeon could drive a bus. ~ Nico Weldy, Age 7, Region K

Just Grace and the Snack Attack by Charise Mercie Harper
Just Grace and the Snack Attack is an exciting book to read. It describes a report that Grace has to do.

In the book, Grace writes a report about an unusual food around the world. She picked potato chips. In this book, her friend Mimi writes about hot dogs.  You can read about different kinds of potato chips.
The part I liked the most is when they had a potato chip party--it was funny! Her parents bought all these different potato chips. Some were really weird and some you might have heard of before. Her mom told them to try to find out what kind of chip it was. Then there was the wish chip that Mimi found. She wished for a sister.
I believe the theme was food. She had to write a report on food and she had a chip party. I think it was a great book. I would recommend it to anyone who likes snacks.

The Kachina Doll Mystery by Carolyn Keene
The Kachina Doll Mystery by Carolyn Keene is an awesome book! It takes Nancy to Arizona for a big mystery. Something funky was going on at an old home on a ranch.
First of all, Nancy gets a letter from her friends Heather and  Chuck. Then she goes to Arizona with her friends Bess and George. Once they arrive, there are two mysteries for her to solve. To clear Nygun’s name and to figure out what was causing a “curse.”
I liked the part when they went horseback riding. It was scary and exciting at the same time. A rattle from a dead rattlesnake was thrown down at Nancy while she slipped and was sliding on her horse Dancer. They were scared half to death.
The theme is mystery and adventure. Of course, as it is a mystery series, I could not think of a better description for it.  ~ Grace Keen, age 9, Region A

Misty of Chincoteague by Marguerite Henry
Misty of Chincoteague is about a boy named Paul, a girl named Maureen, and their Grandpa Beebe. They live on Assateague Island which is off the coast of Virginia and Maryland. Long ago a ship carrying horses from Spain struck a shoal near the island and sunk. The horses escaped and swam to Assateague Island.
Then the book goes on to when Paul and Maureen live. They live on nearby Chincoteague Island but came over to Assateague Island with their grandpa. They see the horses and decide to try to get a pony to keep at the Pony Penning Day. On Pony Penning Day some of the folk of Chincoteague round up some of the ponies on Assateague and swim them over to Chincoteague in order to sell and train them.
Paul and Maureen work hard to collect money to buy a horse called the Phantom. Before Pony Penning Day, Phantom has her baby, Misty. They both are brought over to Chincoteague. It was very exciting. But then someone else buys the Phantom and her baby before Paul and Maureen can buy them. But then the man who bought the horses won another horse for his little boy, and three horses was too much, so he sold Phantom and Misty to Paul and Maureen!
But the most exciting part of the book might be when Paul races the Phantom and wins against a horse that’s been winning all the past races!
At the very end, the mustang from Assateague comes back for Phantom, and Paul sets her free. But Misty stays with Paul and Maureen.  ~ Mary Alice Petrash, age 7, Region A
