Paper pricking is a traditional paper craft used in the New England area of the United States. You bring out the pattern by pricking a series of small holes through paper. Then you hang it so the light shines through the holes from behind. Simple or lined patterns work best.

Materials Needed:

  • Tag board paper (for punching)
  • Thin drawing paper (for pattern
  • Scrap piece of cardboard (to punch into)
  • Pencil, tape, scissors, glue, and tissue paper
  • Colored construction paper (for frame)

Steps:

1.      Draw a simple line drawing on thin drawing paper.

2.      Tape drawing onto tagboard ~ then onto cardboard.

3.      Use needle tool to punch holes along the lines of the drawing. Don't put the holes too close together or too far apart. Make the holes evenly spaced.

More Steps:
  1. Punch a design into the construction paper frame.
  2. Cut out a rectangle in the center so the design shows through.
  3. Add tissue paper on back.
